Please Wish Me Luck
I have an extremely horrific fear of flying. I've had one for as long as I can remember. And I'm leaving for Los Angeles tomorrow. The doctor perscribed something for me to take a half hour before the plane to calm me down, but I can't stop thinking about the plane crashing. I'm so terrified. Do any of you have an intense and irrational fear such as this? I'm petrified.
Re: Please Wish Me Luck
Well, I fly all of the time...so I have no fear of the place crashing. But planes very rarely crash, you are more likely to die on the way to the airport than to die on the plane. Think about that.

the drugs will probably work really well. if u weren't taking drugs i'd say get drunk beforehand. also eat bananas. they have potassium which helps calm your nerves.

Re: Please Wish Me Luck
I know the statistics of a plane crashing are drastically slim, but that's why it's a phobia...an intense and irrational fear of something that you really shouldn't be afraid of.
I'm spending a night or two in LA, my absolute favorite place in the world, then Laguna Beach for the next 5 days, and I'm so excited for that. But I'm sick and tired of my fear of flying getting in the way of doing what I want to do. I'm just so fucking freaked OUT.
And Cozy, I had no ideas bananers helped with that lol.

lol
i don't think i have any intense like high anxiety phobias cuz i haven't really tested them out. But i am pretty against ever going in a cave. i couldn't be dragged in. just the thought of being in a tight space in the dark underground and not being able to turn around really freaks me out. i can't watch cave movies.

Does no one else have this uneasy feeling around cracks and shattered windows.

Angie! <3
I can't stand anything that has to do with harm to eyes. That's probably one of my greatest fears, like getting a papercut on my eye somehow. Scares the crap out of me.

me too. I had a whole scenario in mind too. Like I'm in class and people are passing back papers, and suddenly.... OUCH, papercut in my eye.

Nonono, this is in no way meant to sound mean, but this is an actual phobia, not just something that freaks me out lol.

Re: Please Wish Me Luck
I am completely overwhelmed by big bodies of water, the ocean in particular. Anything to do with it like the tides, being out there and not knowing which way to go and not seeing anything, getting sunstroke becoming delirious and trying to drink the water, getting dehydrated when being surrounded by water, tidal waves, tsunamis, rapids. What really makes me panic is the thought of sea creatures. Sea horses and starfish = cute. Pretty much everything else = not. Obviously sharks are scary but whales are about equally as (if not more) intimidating in my book. Petrifying. Squid, octopi, jellyfish, eels, sting rays, manta rays, swordfish, crabs, lobsters, crayfish, piranhas, sea sponges, water moccasins, horseshoe crabs, even dolphins can be mean. That was so uncomfortable to think about. Finding Nemo was by far scarier than I know What You Did Last Summer.
Death nearly ensued when someone posted this on the last board. (I'm looking at you Jilpen)
I didn't go into the ocean for years and still don't go swimming there often but have been in a lake and the sea once each this summer because the beach is too nice not to enjoy the water when it's not terrifying. Just like LA is going to be too nice for a phobia to get in the way of. You can do it, once you manage to get your mind on something else when you're there keep going with it try to keep your brain too busy/distracted to panic. Good luck Joey! As Luisa says at the end of Y Tu Mama Tambien "life is like the surf, so give yourself away like the sea."

Joey, I'm like deathly afraid of it happening, actually. I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT when paper gets near my eye, unless I'm reading a book or something, but even then I get scared.

Re: Please Wish Me Luck
oh ma lord, joey and jeraldo, i have the same fears!!!
I HATE flying! i take calm me down tablets when i fly but they dont work very well.
i think it started when i was 12 and on my way back from queensland and there was a really funny burning smell on the plane and mum asked the flight attendant what was wrong and she said there was something wrong with one of the engines, but it didnt matter coz they had backup.
as soon as the flight attendant walked away, the oxygen mask above my head popped down and i FREAKED.
ever since then, i get really anxious flying and shake and usually have tears in my eyes as we ascend haha
but funny thing is, im always fine on the way back lol.
and yeh i hate the ocean, i hate the same thibgs you descibed, the massive open water and the creatures. ugh, creatures. this is coming from a lifeguard as well lmao, but i lifeguard at a pool so its different!

Re: Please Wish Me Luck
i used to be scared of flying, but now i think it's fun, take-off is like a rollercoaster. but turbulence still scares me if it's one of those small planes. i get all "don't move, it tips the plane!"
Re: Please Wish Me Luck
You have to fly back...
