IMDbBP - Challenge #2
i forgot my fucking white rope thingy from the first picture, but i love the photos so much, i couldn't pick just 1 because i hated doing architecture in high school, so i sent in these 3 with a promise that i'd go back and take a picture of myself standing in front of the location so she knows i took the picture. so yeah, i hate architecture personally, so i tried to incorporate a few other elements in the picturez:
who else has turned in their photoz?

Re: IMDbBP - Challenge #2
I submitted this one:
I'm just worried it won't be urban enough, but it's certainly a beautiful piece of architecture. It's also where Ann and I did her first photoshoot.

that is beautiful. and i think we all had to get as much "city" as we could, so i just went to the busiest part of town, though you can't tell because there are plants growing fucking EVERYWHERE here.
i like your shot Erik, it's very beautiful, especially that water.

Re: IMDbBP - Challenge #2
Thanks, I really like your shots, too. I could've gone much more urban, considering I live so close to the city, but considering I can't drive it's much more difficult than just going for me.

Re: IMDbBP - Challenge #2
It's this place known as the Lava Rock House. It's a private property that's sort of been abandoned and has all these "Do Not Trespass" signs surrounding it, but people do it all the time anyway. It was constructed by this man who's big in the seatbelt business in the 90's, but there was a fire during construction, so they stopped building altogether. Half of the property is all these different lava rock formations like caves, a half-built pool, a jacuzzi, and all these networks of waterways, but since the place is abandoned there's not really any water. But it's so beautiful. A lot of people go there to smoke and drink. Haha.

Re: IMDbBP - Challenge #2
really? there's not a few hours within the last 72 that you couldn't grab a camera and start clicking?
it's not like modeling where you may need time to set up an area, make-up, wardrobe, etc., it's just taking pictures of stuff that's already there. for 3 years of photography class, we usually had 3 or 4 days to shoot 1 or 2 rolls of film and everyone that gave a shit and wanted to do it usually got it done on time.

i have to find the perfect place, the perfect camera, i have to wait for the right time, since i'm using natural light, and i can't control it like i would with a studio light. usually, pictures don't look the same on camera as they do on the computer, so if it's not right, i have to retake.
it takes a lot. to me, at least.

a good photographer knows how to capture good lighting at any time during the day.
and shoots, shoots, shoots so that if the shots aren't going to be what you thought they are, you luck into a few good shots you didn't realize.
yeah, that's right. racist, homophobic and now i'm gonna be a bitch. mothufucka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no, there's a best time when trying to capture good contrast with shadows, when the sun rises and sets, but that's only if you take photos one way. there are angles and techniques for capturing shadows in the middle of the day.
and if you don't know how your shots are going to look when you're shooting them, the best you can hope for is to luck into a shot.
a good, experienced photographer knows this.
my photo teacher used to try to pull this "right time of day" shit with us, but i flat out lied to her ass and told her i took it a photo when the sun was setting and she used it as an example to show the rest of the class how to do it "right" and then i raised my hand and was like "oh wait, that's the photo i took right after lunch, Saturday." so really, unless you're taking pictures directly OF the sun, the time of day doesn't mean shit.
